Californiacrushed 89,519 tons of Pinot Noir in 2007, almost triple of the 32,000 tons crushed in 1990, according to the California Grape Crush Reports.  With increased planted acreage every year, winemakers are betting their future with Pinot Noir.

"I think there’s a bright future with California Pinot Noir. I’m an optimist, and gambling my future on it. There are many places that grow great Pinot Noir, and the great sites will always be the great sites. To me, that means there’s longevity. Styles will evolve. We’re figuring out what Pinot Noir gives us, and figuring it out viticulturally. There are a lot of good vineyards eight, 10 and 12 years old coming into their own."
